Swimming
Opportunities for water based activities
abound during your visit to the Kissimmee area. Here we will provide
a general overview of Water Parks, State Parks, Florida's
Beaches (to be added at a later date) and many other activities
related to water and/or swimming.
--- ---
Naturally, with the beaches of both the Gulf of Mexico and the
Atlantic Ocean only 45 miles West and East of Kissimmee, there will
be opportunities for some water-related fun
Whether it's choosing from the natural water ways of Florida or from
one of the many Water Parks that abound e.g. Typhoon Lagoon,
Blizzard Beach, River Country, Wet N' Wild & Water Mania.
Let us tell you about the lesser-known 'swimming holes' that remain
firm favourites among local residents.
--- ---
Starting with
Wekiwa Springs.
Located approximately 45 minutes north of Kissimmee, this
outstanding spring is accessible by exiting Interstate 4 East at the
Altamonte Springs exit.
Wekiwa Springs pumps nearly 42 million gallons of 'crystal clear'
spring water each day and has always been a local favorite. Camping,
Fishing, Hiking, and Canoe Rentals are all to be enjoyed here.
Its cool and refreshing waters offer a most inviting retreat for the
young and old alike, especially during hot summer periods.
In the same direction a little further north is -
Blue Springs State Park
another gem within the Florida State Park system.
Several exhibits can be found here, as well as swimming areas for
all age groups.
--- --- Though there are
literally thousands of springs and lakes throughout Florida, very
few offer a swimming beach.
One of the exceptions to this is in the quaint community of St.
Cloud, located just east of Kissimmee on US192. With a beautiful
"tree-lined" Lakefront Park it is well worth taking the short drive
to enjoy a picnic lunch overlooking the water.
--- ---
Don't miss the City of Celebration, just east of I-4, and across
from Water Mania on US192. Drive down to the lakefront in
Celebration and let the kids romp through the Lakefront Fountain
which was built for that sole purpose.
Take a break during a two week holiday, go visit some of the Real
USA.
