Horse Riding
Hidden from view around the tourist
areas of Orlando are the wide open spaces of Central Florida.
Kissimmee is home to many equine activities in this splendid country
side.
--- ---
In an area just northwest of Kissimmee
is the City of Ocala, well known as the thoroughbred horse capital
of Florida.
It is here that many of the thoroughbreds raised in the area will
race in the country's premier race - the Kentucky Derby.
In this section, we'll focus our attention a little closer to
Kissimmee with the numerous farms and ranches in Osceola County.
Though there exists very little history of this area that we can
refer to, the area is well known for its cattle ranches. The State
of Florida ranks number three as a cattle-producing state in the
U.S.
One of the largest of these is the Adams Ranch, comprising 65,000
acres in St. Lucie, Osceola and Okeechobee Counties.
A little closer to Kissimmee is the 'Horse World' Riding Stables,
located just 12 miles south of US192. Three different types of
riding experiences await you. Ranging from a 'Nature Trail Ride' all
the way to an 'Advanced Trail Ride'. With over 750 acres to explore,
you are sure to see some native wildlife and see Florida the way it
really is.
For the much younger children, 'Green Meadows Petting Farm' would be
a good choice with over 300 farm animals to see and touch. Pony
rides, hayrides and milking a cow, are all part of the experiences
to be found here.
